Here are just a few examples of how we have worked with clients throughout the UK.
- MESH worked with a large paper company in Kent to promote to staff the importance of reporting all accidents and incidents. The reports were closely monitored and managers were assisted to carry out investigations to determine the underlying causes, from which preventative measures were implemented. This action had the effect of reducing the number of RIDDOR reportable accidents by 75% the following year.
- MESH has worked with staff at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication to investigate a number of incidents in order to identify the underlying causes. What has clearly been recognised is the effect that end of term exams has on students and the increase in risk at this time. The college intends to use this knowledge to brief its staff to be especially vigilant in this period.
- MESH has worked closely with staff at East Malling Research (EMR) to investigate a number of accidents, including one reportable under RIDDOR. The investigations have led to a number of improvement actions being identified, which have subsequently been implemented or added to the longer term improvement plans.
Accidents are a learning opportunity because today they may not cost you anything but if lessons aren’t learnt from accidents then the impacts later are high and could involve injury, death, legal action, or even imprisonment.
