Risk Assessment

COSHH risk assessment clients

MESH staff have developed a vast experience in carrying out COSHH assessments in a diversity of operations, in both the private and public sectors throughout the UK. These have included assessments in laboratories, workshops, manufacturing, construction, kitchens, care sector and many others.

  1. MESH have worked with the staff at a paper mill in Kent to complete a number of COSHH assessments, associated to the use of chemicals on the paper machines and in the chemical process plant on-site. The chemicals used included a range of acids and solvents (amongst others) and the volumes varied from 50 litre drums to 1000 litre storage tanks. Through working with staff on the assessments a number of process control improvements were identified that have now been successfully implemented.

  2. MESH has undertaken a series of risk assessments on the laboratory operations at East Malling Research (EMR) Ltd. Previously the laboratories relied predominately on generic assessments, mainly based around COSHH. MESH has worked closely with key laboratory staff to develop assessments that consider all risks and identify effective controls.

  3. MESH has worked with the technicians at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication, to identify the COSHH risks on-site. Each department now has access to up to date information on the chemicals being used and staff understand the importance of maintaining controls such as local exhaust ventilation (LEV). Through the assessments a number of chemicals have subsequently been replaced with less harmful alternatives.

  4. MESH worked with the management of Bethany nursing homes to undertake a full review of the risk assessments they had in place. These covered general risk, COSHH, manual handling and fire. From this review a significant number of the assessments were subsequently revisited and with help from MESH, updated to comply with the relevant legislative requirements. Positive comments were received by the home on the risk assessments, following a routine inspection by the health authorities.

  5. MESH has worked with Sign 2000, a progressive sign manufacturing and installation company, to develop comprehensive risk and COSHH assessments. The companies operations included a paint spraying process and the use of a range of other chemicals including two pack adhesives. MESH developed competent COSHH assessments to cover all chemicals used in the various processes on-site.
  6. MESH has recently undertaken a series of twenty COSHH assessments for a company in the fire servicing industry. These assessments related to the chemicals used by the engineers as part of their work in servicing fire protection equipment and systems.
