- MESH were asked to undertake a DSEAR assessment at the Bristol site of Graphic Packaging Limited. The two areas of concern for the company in relation to DSEAR were connected to:
a. the use of IPA in the printing process and;
b. the control of paper dust in the waste collection system.
MESH reviewed the operations and provided advice on the implementation of simple precautions to reduce and minimise the risk of an explosive atmosphere occurring.
- MESH worked with worked with a large paper company in Kent to review
the risks from fire and explosion from the dangerous substances used
and stored on site. The work undertaken concentrated on the management
arrangements needed to maintain safe systems of work and procedures,
emergency procedures and worker training.
- MESH have worked with the RSPCA to review the risks of storing bulk
gases used in its animal hospitals at various animal centres across
the U.K.
- MESH were asked to undertake a review of three food manufacturing sites in Scarborough and Lincolnshire for a group seen as world leaders in providing quality products and custom solutions for the food industry. The sites service a number of blue chip clients and employ over 300 staff across the sites. The company were concerned with compliance in relation to the requirements of DSEAR. The operations across the sites included meat processing, sweet pastry and savoury pastry manufacturing. MESH carried out an inspection of each of the sites and reported back to management on the findings. The main risks were concerned with the possible release of flour and sugar based products as a dust and the potential for explosion. Through the review MESH were able to offer advice on some solutions to control such risks.
