- MESH worked with management and staff at Bethany nursing homes to
update the homes manual handling assessments, covering all types of
handling and moving activities. From these assessments MESH developed
a series of safe systems of working that staff have been trained to
understand. We have since developed and delivered a manual handling
train the trainer programme to key staff to enable future training
to be delivered in-house.
- MESH has worked closely with staff at East Malling Research (EMR)
to update manual handling assessments for activities connected to
its glasshouse and scientific operations. A number of hazards were
identified that had just been accepted as the way things had always
been done. Working with staff alternative solutions were suggested
and a number of changes have already been implemented. MESH has now
also delivered manual handling training to some staff, focussing them
on the need assess the risks before undertaking manual handling tasks.
- MESH have worked with the RSPCA to assess the risk to field inspectors of handling large injured animals in the field. Often this required the inspectors to carry the animal over large distances on difficult terrain. The solution identified was to provide handling aids that could be easily transported and to develop systems of work that the inspectors could be trained to use.
