MESH has worked with companies large and small, throughout the UK, in a wide range of industries, to undertake noise assessments in line with the new Noise at Work Regulations 2006. Recent examples have included:
-
MESH has undertaken a series of noise assessments in 2008 on behalf of BATEC International Ltd, working on the companies drilling rigs and ground probe plant.
The assessments included going onto site where the plant was in operation and monitoring the noise, this included visiting a large construction site in the South East.
-
MESH undertook a noise survey and series of noise assessments for a large packaging company based in Bristol in 2007. The company uses a range of large print and punch presses, glue lines and sheet cutters and required MESH to provide a detailed report to identify where improvements were required.
Following on from the original report the company has implemented a policy to review the noise assessments on a 12 monthly basis and has asked MESH to carry this out for them.
- MESH was contracted to undertake noise mapping of a large production site for Comma Oil at the Gravesend site in late 2007. The noise mapping was carried out at an agreed grid pattern and these measurements were mapped onto a colour coded LAeq noise map and supported by a detailed report providing recommendations on possible areas of improvement.
- MESH undertook a noise assessment for a printing company based in West London employing around 60-70 staff. The assessments covered a range of printing and production cutting lines. The company had requested the assessments because it was concerned that the changes to the Noise at Work regulations meant that employees may have been exposed to levels of noise in excess to the daily or weekly exposure limit value that were introduced. It was also concerned that staff were not taking seriously the controls that management had introduced to control the levels of exposure. The assessment process included MESH staff educating staff as to the importance of protecting their hearing by following the control systems introduced by the management and what the consequences could otherwise be.
- MESH undertook a noise survey and series of noise assessments for a company based in West Sussex that makes security fencing and access gates. This was commissioned in response to the HSE requesting that an up to date survey was needed. The company uses a range of metal cutting equipment that emits noise well in excess of the second action limit from the Noise at Work regulations.
Our consultant undertook monitoring on all of the processes and made written recommendations on areas of concern and what actions were needed to be taken by the company.
- MESH undertook a noise survey on behalf of P&O Ferries portside operations at Dover. This survey covered a range of activities including maintenance workshops, traffic management, operating vehicles that move trailers on and off of the ships and coin counting.
From the report provided P&O have implemented a number of improvements and requested MESH to deliver noise awareness training to the employees potentially at risk.
- MESH undertook a noise survey for a small joinery company based in Surrey. The company were responding to pressure from their local Envionmental Health Officer to undertake a noise assessment in compliance with the Noise At Work Regulations.
MESH undertook the survey and supplied the company with a detailed report of the findings and recommendations to achieve legal compliance. Subsequently, MESH provided advice on how to respond to further questions from the Envionmental Health Officer.
- MESH undertook noise monitoring surveys of
the workshops at Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication.
Staff had previously expressed concerns over the noise levels emitted
by the machinery in both the wood and metal workshops. The purpose
of the noise survey was to assess the daily exposure of personnel
to noise in their working environment and identify areas where subsequent
hearing damage could occur. The noise survey pinpointed where
the problems existed and a report was compiled for management, identifying
the necessary actions to be taken.
- MESH carried out noise monitoring for a sign manufacturing company
who use a wide range of workshop equipment such as guillotines, pillar
drills, routers, metal saws, welding equipment and hand held tools.
The survey identified areas where improvements were needed in order
to comply with the new regulations and included a review of the suitability
of hearing protection issued. In line with the requirements of the
regulations audiometry testing was also arranged on the companies
behalf.
- MESH undertook a noise monitoring survey across all operations for a large food processing plant at which around 60 employees worked. The results identified a number of areas of concern given the changes in the acceptable noise levels to which employees can be exposed to. An improvement plan was produced and employees briefed on the survey results.
