NEBOSH has recently changed its rules on how an examination room should be set up, to try and counter concerns from examiners that papers are coming from some training centres where the answers are too similar. As NEBOSH state, they are proud to offer such sought-after qualifications and expect centres to apply high standards to the examinations. [1]
At a recent examination a NEBOSH invigilator turned up un-announced at one of our examination centres to observe how we set up and control the exam conditions. She was pleased with what she found and how we applied the new rules.
We think this approach from NEBOSH is a positive way to ensure the high standards are kept up and to try to weed out any centres who maybe don’t apply the rules in the same way.
At MESH we have a pass rate that is Well Above Average; a statement made by a member of the NEBOSH organisation to us recently. A record we are rightly proud of and a record that has been achieved through high standards of teaching and not by other means.
As we discuss with our students, the point of the course is to provide the skills and knowledge to start a career as a health & safety professional and you have to put the work in if you want to pass. Let’s hope NEBOSH take further steps to crack down on centres where concerns are raised.
