We have provided Competent Person Consultancy for clients in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, London, Essex & UK-wide

Before deciding whether we’re the right fit for your competent person consultancy, we believe it’s important you see the kinds of clients we’ve supported over the past 20+ years.  You can explore a selection of them via the link below.

A quick summary of how we can help

  • Meet your legal duties: UK law (specifically the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999) requires every employer to appoint one or more competent persons to assist with health and safety compliance, especially if you have five or more employees.  We act as your appointed competent person to fulfill this fundamental obligation.
  • Gain expert support: Access our team of qualified, experienced, and chartered health and safety professionals.  We offer practical, jargon-free advice tailored to your specific business and industry risks.
  • Ensure peace of mind & compliance: We help you identify hazards, implement effective risk control measures, and stay updated with evolving health and safety legislation.  This protects your business from legal penalties, financial liabilities, and reputational damage, allowing you to focus on your core operations.
  • Cost-effective solution: Outsourcing your competent person needs provides a professional and affordable way to manage health and safety, often more efficiently than an in-house role, saving you time and resources. We offer flexible support, including stand-alone monthly options, without hidden costs or restrictive packages.

Our guarantee to you

The Safety Effect clients are happy clients and many provide testimonials to this fact.

We provide highly professional and qualified competent person services that guarantee you will never have to worry about a visit from the HSE.

Our guarantee is that if we have provided you with competent persons support, in the unlikely event of any negative contact from the HSE, we will be available (free) to support you in your response.  All we ask is that you have followed and implemented Health & Safety recommendations that we provide as part of our work with you.

Costs

Costs of competent persons support can vary depending on the type and size of organisations and the range of activities we are requested to carry.  We work with small, medium, and large businesses, each of which requires a tailored pricing specific to their size and business focus.

As a guideline, we have provided organisations with as little as two days support over a 12 month period, and on the other end of the scale, we have provided clients with a competent person on site for 2-3 days per week over the period of the contract agreed.

Because of this our fees have ranged from as little as £1,100 to £12,000 to provide support that meets the individual organisations needs.  For recent projects (as at 2025) the majority of contracts were for under £2,300.

Based on our professional standing we believe that our pricing is very competitive but we guarantee never to compromise on quality.  You can be assured that our competent person consultants will add value to your business without costing the fortune that some of our larger competitors charge.

Of course, we would expect you to shop around for quotations but would encourage you to check what level of service is being provided.  It’s worth asking yourself whether you getting health and safety support that fully protects your business and people in the unfortunate event of an accident or visit from the HSE.  Unfortunately, some health & safety consultants do offer particularly low prices and cut corners that endanger the business of their clients.

If in any doubt about any other pricing you are being quoted, please do contact us without obligation to then use our services.  We never sales pitch but we are serious about businesses making a costly mistake.

Where we work

Our competent person consultancy services are primarily delivered across Kent, Sussex, London, Surrey, and Essex – regions where our work is most established and where we continue to support hundreds of businesses.

As demand for our practical, proportionate health and safety support has grown, so too has our team.  We now have employed consultants based in other parts of the UK, not just at our head office.  This means we can provide nationwide coverage while keeping travel time and costs to a minimum.  This allows us to maintain a high standard of service and competitive pricing no matter where you’re located.

Whether you’re a local SME or a business with multiple sites across the UK, our directly employed team of experienced consultants ensures you receive consistent, high-quality competent person support tailored to your sector and location.
