A quick summary of why you should talk to MESH

It's one thing for you as an employer to recognise the risks of exposure to workplace noise but sometimes it's more difficult to implement effective control measures. This is because employees often fail to appreciate the risks.

Our training helps to change your employee attitude to why effective controls are needed and how to protect themselves from long-term hearing damage.

MESH  noise assessments and training has enabled P&O Ferries to improve its control of exposure to noise. I would highly recommend MESH.

About Noise Awareness Training

Image for this page

Noise can be defined as unwanted or unpleasant sound. It can get in the way of the sounds we would rather hear.

We are all exposed to noise every day - at home, at work, and in traffic. If the noise gets high enough it can lead to problems such as loss of hearing or tinnitus.

Research estimates that 170,000 people in the UK suffer from deafness, tinnitus, or other ear conditions because of exposure to noise at work. Estimates indicate that around 2.25 million people are at risk of hearing damage through workplace noise.

Changes in the Workplace Noise Regulations that came into force in April 2006 required companies to:

  1. Carry out noise risk assessments;
  2. Reduce exposure to employees;
  3. Provide information and training for employees;
  4. Issue personal hearing protection (but not rely on this alone)

Are you really assessing the key risks to your business?

Only recently I delivered an IOSH Managing Safely course to a client and we asked a question to the managers attending:  â€œwhat are the key risks in their business?”.  What came back depended on the area that they managed … Transport risks were uppermost at the site for the logistics and transport guys.  These included […]
