We have recently come across a request from a large water company for a risk assessment to be supplied. On the face of it this appears to be a positive step.
However what became clear in reading the request was that what they really wanted was just the paperwork to tick the requirement off.
The suggestion they made was to dust off the assessment from the previous event and to re-issue it. What makes the request more concerning was the fact that they were having a ‘corporate bbq’ and could have been potentially putting peoples lives at risks?
This information came to be passed onto us by someone concerned about the lapse management attitude. Now we realise that the event was probably low risk but nevertheless why not make the effort to do the assessment properly? Rather than just have paperwork; taking the time to consider what would make the event go off safely would have a much more positive effect.
