Is your business just coasting in the hope nothing will go wrong?

  • Attitude toward Health and Safety

January 19, 2016

I was speaking recently to a director in a business, discussing whether that business was doing enough to ensure the safety and health of its employees. The senior management team certainly appears to have the right intentions but it seems that complacency may have crept in over the years.

The director was looking at getting an independent review as he was concerned that as a business they may be missing things that could put people at risk. He was aware that some managers may have become blinkered towards certain risks because they are seeing them every day. This is something most businesses suffer with because, in the absence of any serious outcome, it is very often assumed that the risks are low.

However, it is often just a case of living on borrowed time and then, when something does go badly wrong, there are questions being asked of “why we didn’t see that before?”. Unfortunately, this approach often leads to someone suffering serious pain and often, in types of businesses such as the one I was talking with, life changing injuries.  This is something this particular business didn’t want to occur and therefore were looking for an independent no punches held back review from a highly experienced health & safety consultancy.

If this sounds like the right approach for your business why not contact the MESH team for a no-obligation chat.
