What did we do?

A visit was made to the English Spirit Distillery site, Halstead, Essex, on 8th March 2017 to consider compliance with the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR), incorporating Amendment 1: June 2015. The site’s core business is the licenced production of distilled spirits for the commercial and retail alcoholic drinks markets.

Routine plant operations involved potentially-hazardous substances (principally LPG and ethanol, and other flammables). There was some storage and handling of combustible materials, and dispensing of flammable liquid carried out on-site.

MESH were required to complete a full DSEAR assessment of the site operations and prepare a detailed report with prioritised action plan to help the business towards compliance and best practice.

A review of progress was completed in January 2018 to sign off actions completed and provide further guidance to the business. This was important as the HSE had been involved.
