Mesh Consultants were appointed to review the risks associated with this process and at the same visit we assessed other DSEAR risks and made an overall compliance assessment.
The DSEAR focus was upon the concentration of flammable components in the fruit processing by-products.
DSEAR imposes a requirement to eliminate or reduce risks to safety from fire, explosion or other events arising from the hazardous properties of any dangerous substance used in connection with a work process. The responsible person must carry out a suitable and sufficient assessment of risk to employees for dangerous substances that are or may be present on-site.
A full review of site operations was completed and a DSEAR risk assessment produced. The report provided to management included HAC calculations, ignition risk assessment and recommendations for areas of improvement.
