The project involved undertaking both a DSEAR and Fire risk assessment of the new spray facility TK Components Ltd had recently installed.
Spray Plant facilities at the Cranberry Drive site in Manchester allow for the application of a number of different finishes to cabinet components to suit a wide client base and specific market requirements. Process activities are confined to a recently constructed, purpose-designed building.
Operations within the spray plant facility include manual dispensing and mixing of coating materials for spray application plus preparation / polishing of cabinet surfaces and general cleaning of equipment as necessary.
Vapours from routine handling of flammables incur some degree of fire and explosion risk unless ventilation and ignition controls are adequate.
The key objectives of site survey was to determine whether operations in the building were subject to duties within DSEAR and to provide an outline fire risk assessment – with comment on relevant hazards and control measures employed. The final report included a series of recommendations to assist the company to manage its health and safety obligations.
