What did we do?

A visit was made to the Worksop premises of Cerealto on Wednesday July 6th 2016 to review compliance in respect of the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002 (DSEAR). These regulations came into force in the UK in 2003, implementing an EU Directive (ATEX137) concerned with protection of workers and adopt a risk-based approach to protect personnel against fire and explosion hazards.

The site was in process of being completed with some processes completed, part completed and under factory acceptance testing and the main four lines still under construction.

Cerealto produces a range of biscuits in five manufacturing lines plus a Gluten Free line from a range of ingredients, many of which produce explosive dusts.

The focus of the DSEAR for Cerealto was upon arrangements for offloading, transporting and processing of potentially explosive raw materials and equipment used to collect dust from the environment.

Detailed risk assessment and Hazardous Area Classification was completed and a detailed report provided to the business. A number of improvement actions were also recommended to be implemented.
