The PUWER assessments were being undertaken at the request of the Parent company following some problems experienced at one of the U.S. sites.
PUWER defines the term equipment as “any equipment, machinery, appliance, apparatus, tool or installation for use at work”. A whole host of equipment was seen at the site including machines such as mills, grinders, electric hoists, hydraulic lift tables, manual rack and pinion presses, drills and more specialist bits of kit.
It did not require assessment of some items that were considered small enough to be left out of this review but we did indicate the importance these need to be kept in a safe state by frequent examination, especially prior to use. These items included small air operated hand tools, small non powered hand tools and some very simple test equipment, etc.
The project included the provision of an assessment for each piece of equipment, a covering report and a spreadsheet to identifying what changes/improvements were required.
