The Avonmouth site is split into two operational businesses, Sulzer Bootham Engineers and Sulzer Dowding Mills. There are 60 employees across both operations.
Sulzer Bootham Engineers generally operates 24 hours Monday to Friday and on days at weekends but can move to 24/7 if required. Sulzer Bootham Engineers offer a wide range of general mechanical services. From emergency service, to the repair and re-manufacture of parts.
Sulzer Dowding Mills provides a repair and rewind business specialising in electrical machines, motors and generators. The repair and refurbishment operations include varnish coating of windings through a dipping process.
The key DSEAR risks throughout the site are mainly concentrated on the use of flammable gases; as each department has a number of kits located around the production areas.
A number of recommendations for potential improvements were highlighted to the branch manager in the DSEAR survey report/assessment.
