The company was aware that dust was being released into the environment at a few stages, but mainly when hand feeding bags of ingredients into mixers, where residual dust is left on the empty bags, the dropping the batches into the bins creating loose dust in some cases and handling the product through their automatic feed systems which can create dust when there are loose seals etc.
Victoria Foods were looking to employ competent DSEAR consultants who could complete a zoning assessment as well as a risk assessment across all of their activities. This was complete by MESH during December 2009 and a report was issued to the company advising on where improvements could be achieved and on zoning requirements.
